Buna göre tarihçinin, eleştirel tarih metodunun ilkelerine uyarak olguları inceden inceye araştırması ve derinlemesine öğrenmesi gerekir. Olguların bu metoda uygun olarak özenle tespit edilmesinden sonra, artık onları tarihi bir tasvir meydana getirebilecek tarzda birleştirmek söz konusudur. Bu konuda yazarın, felsefe tarihini bütünüyle kendi bakış açısına göre inşa etme havasına kapılmadan belirli oranda subjektif davranması, eseri renkli bir hale getirir.
